Over the past few years, society has made tremendous strides toward recognizing that all bodies are beautiful, not just the ones that fit certain unrealistic, predetermined ideas. Nowhere is this progress more evident than in the recent news that Thesaurus.com added “300 pounds and counting” as a synonym for “beautiful.”

The world continues to move in the direction of body positivity, and Thesaurus.com is right there in the vanguard. With the addition of “300 pounds and counting” to the “beautiful” page, Thesaurus.com is embracing the wide variety of body types that make up the world, listing the phrase among such traditional synonyms as “alluring,” “gorgeous,” and “stunning.”

Just yes. What a powerful, resounding affirmation of human beauty.

Oh, and as if this news couldn’t get any better, Thesaurus.com highlighted “300 pounds and counting” in orange, meaning that the website considers it to be one of the most relevant synonyms for “beautiful.” Awesome.

There’s still a long way to go, but this is a perfect example of how the world is becoming much more accepting when it comes to how we think about body image. It’s definitely tough to imagine something like this happening 10 years ago.
